NSBE Boston Emerging Tech Talks – “Interconnected World”

Building Ideas in an Interconnected World!
Join NSBE Boston on December 3rd for our 2nd Annual Emerging Tech Talks. This year’s theme will include a panel discussion an “Interconnected World” and learn how Technology connects & shapes our future.
This is the second year NSBE Boston has hosted the Emerging Tech Talks, which is part of our Annual Science & Technology exhibition series, a strategy “to increase the number of Black Engineers who succeed professionally”.
Elsa Sze (Founder & CEO of Agora) will deliver the keynote address.

NSBE Boston Emerging Tech Talks is another unique initiative of NSBE Boston, with the objective to highlight innovations and in Science & Technology.

Keynote Speaker – Elsa Sze, Founder/ CEO of Agora

elsa-sze-headshot Elsa is the Founder & CEO of Agora, a venture-backed tech startup with a mission to reimagine democracy in the 21st century. Elsa created Agora, an online town hall platform for building engaged communities while pursuing her joint degree at Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Her belief in the power of ordinary citizens to change the world was further affirmed by her experience serving as a policy advisor for the Obama campaign in 2012.

Prior to Harvard, Elsa was a consultant at McKinsey & Co. where she advised Fortune 500 executives on growth strategy, organizational effectiveness, and risk management. During the recent financial crisis, Elsa was at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC, advising G20 finance ministers on fiscal stimulus policies. Elsa spent a brief time at Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan after graduating from the University of Chicago, where she majored in Economics and Political Science. Elsa was named a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum in 2015.

Douglas Johnston is a Director of Population Health Services at athenahealth. A graduate of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Music Technology Systems from the University of York (UK). Douglas began his career at Texas Instruments, testing network switches, signal processors and the DLP chip found in many projectors today.  He moved into software consulting at the beginning of the Internet boom. Douglas worked for Avanade (a global Microsoft Systems Integrator) for 15 years, on projects that included the London Stock Exchange trading platform and the national medical records system in the UK.  He has worked across many industries, including healthcare, insurance, and communications. Douglas joined athenahealth in July 2016, and now manages a team of people dedicated to unbreaking healthcare.

Satish Singh is a Development Engineer at Philips Healthcare in Andover, MA. In this role, he is involved in the development of next generation diagnostic imaging and interventional devices, such as catheters and ultrasound transducers. Satish specializes in materials development and the chemical and biocompatibility evaluation of medical devices. He obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 2014 and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida in 2008. Satish is a native of St. Lucia.

Isaiah Udotong is the Managing Partner of The Releaf Group, a platform that provides Nigerian businesses access to investors while increasing their investment potential. He studies at MIT majoring in Mechanical Engineering with Concentration in International Development. He has worked at Facebook as a software engineer the past 2 summers and is a Congressional Gold Medalist.
