FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 16 2020
BOSTON, MA – With the many challenges that 2020 brought, NSBE Boston Professionals recognized that students were struggling to keep up with the new virtual environment. As such, Homework Helpers was launched! This virtual one-on-one tutoring initiative was created to help students seeking assistance in science, mathematics and reading comprehension. This pilot program started in January 2021 and onboarded students K-12. Each student was then matched with a “Homework Helper”. Our team is made up of career professionals and even high school students who have volunteered one hour of their time each week to support students through out the Greater Boston community
Our Homework Helper have gone above and beyond to create engaging and meaningful learning sessions with their students.
Ben and Guy (age 9) have begun to learn beyond the classroom curriculum to make sure that Guys interest in science is being fed. They have been learning and tackling many cool physics concepts such as acceleration and force. Ben and Guy have even started to work on creating working circuits! Nathan and Ayden (age 7) have used their common interest in drawing to learn about number lines, while Allie and Layla (age 15) have been working hard to prep for her upcoming SATs.
These are just a few examples of the great work everyone has been doing as part of the Homework Helpers program.
During our first monthly check in, parents shared their thoughts on the program.
“The team of professionals at NSBE Boston have done an amazing job developing the homework helper program. This has been a tough academic year for children and parents, this program came along at just the right time. My son has always struggled with math, he was partnered with Jovi who has a special gift of teaching numbers. My son has a much better understanding and has achieved his highest math grade ever. We never want this program to end and look forward to the weekly sessions. Jovi is a great role model, we appreciate his time and dedication to us and the community, thank you! “ -Tiara
“The NSBE program tutor has helped to build my daughter’s confidence. She is always willing to meet with her tutor and she knows she will receive the assistance needed to complete her tasks. We are truly grateful. “ – Ann
A big thank you goes out to the volunteers , students, and guardians that have shared their time.
