The Inspire STEM Youth Workforce Development program is a pathway program by NSBE Boston designed to expose students from Environmental Justice communities to clean energy career paths. Our mission is to enable students to secure stable and growing career paths while becoming stakeholders in the clean energy industry.

About the Inspire STEM Program

The Inspire STEM Program is an immersive 6-week summer experience designed to prepare rising and graduating high school juniors and seniors from Boston and surrounding EJ communities for careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students gain real-world exposure through mentorship, hands-on learning, and professional development.

Mentorship from STEM professionals along with site visits and internship placements that provide real industry experience.

A workforce-readiness curriculum that builds confidence, technical skills, and career preparedness.

A small, focused cohort of 15 students that fosters personalized support, collaboration, and strong community connections.

The Inspire STEM Youth Workforce Development Program is your gateway to a career in the clean energy industry. This 6-week internship is designed for high school juniors and seniors from Environmental Justice (EJ) communities who are passionate about making a difference.

Join us from July 7th to August 18th and get ready to:

  • Gain Hands-On Experience: Get exposed to real-world projects and site visits with leading clean energy companies like Schneider Electric and Honeywell. Explore areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, and more.
  • Develop Valuable Skills: Learn from industry experts through mentorship, professional development workshops, and practical training. Build the technical and professional skills you need to succeed in the clean energy sector.
  • Learn About Certifications: Discover the certifications relevant to energy technology and offshore wind energy that can bolster your future career or education.
  • Earn a $3,000 Stipend: Participants will receive a $3,000 stipend for their involvement in the program, recognizing their commitment and efforts over the 6-week period.

What is the Inspire STEM Youth Workforce Development Program?
The Inspire STEM Youth Workforce Development Program is a clean energy career awareness, exploration, and preparedness program for high school students in Greater Boston. Through structured learning, hands-on projects, mentorship, and industry exposure, the program helps students explore pathways in clean energy, engineering, and sustainability.
Who is eligible to apply?
The program primarily serves high school students from Environmental Justice communities in Greater Boston. Recruitment also focuses on students from under-resourced communities and students historically underrepresented in STEM and clean energy fields.
What is Environmental Justice?
Environmental justice is the idea that everyone should have a fair and equal say in the environmental decisions that affect their lives, health, and well-being. It also means that no one should suffer more from environmental problems, such as pollution or climate change, because of their race, income, or background. Environmental justice is a movement that tries to protect the rights and interests of all people and communities, especially those who are most vulnerable or marginalized, and to promote more sustainable and fair ways of using and sharing the natural resources of the planet.
Do I need prior experience in STEM or clean energy?
No prior experience is required. The program is designed to provide students with exposure, learning opportunities, and career awareness in the clean energy sector.
What kinds of experiences are included in the program?
Participants may take part in hands-on learning, project-based activities, mentorship, and exposure to employers and industry professionals.
What are the goals of the program?
The program is designed to:
- Increase clean energy career awareness and preparedness among high school students
- Provide exposure to clean energy, engineering, sustainability, and related STEM pathways
- Support students in exploring college, technical training, and career options aligned with their interests
- Strengthen connections between students, schools, employers, and clean energy opportunities in Massachusetts
